Aside from money, the political consultant James Carville once said, the greatest contributions an individual can give are love and labor. In the Coachella Valley, philanthropy is a robust part of our tourism- and agriculture-driven economy. Affluent and generous residents continually give untold millions of dollars every year to help find cures, ease suffering, improve quality of life, and enlighten the most people possible. They serve on the boards of nonprofit organizations, chair fundraising galas and events, and wield their influence to draw support to their causes. Palm Springs Life celebrates the vital role they play each month in its Sand to Sea section. In fact, we could probably fill this entire magazine with their names and faces. We appreciate them all — including those who give below our radar.
In this feature, we recognize some of the hard-working — and often unsung — champions of charity. They give their love and their labor to make a difference in the lives of the people they serve. And they’re the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Thank you for your service!
