Events - New Experiences Added to the 2008 Art of Food & Wine Palm Desert

The Art of Food & Wine Palm Desert, a four-day celebration showcasing the very best in art, food and wine hospitality and education, announced enhanced programming for the third annual festival, scheduled to occur Thursday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 9.

A sampling of this year’s can’t-miss events:

El Paseo Invitational Exhibition Dedication

The Art of Food & Wine Palm Desert will open with an artistic bang Thursday evening when 18 new sculptures are welcomed by Palm Desert’s El Paseo shopping district to complement the beauty and excitement of this fashionista paradise.

Opening Night “Food Flight!”

Thursday night will kick off with a friendly interactive competition at Desert Willow Golf Resort, featuring Coachella Valley’s finest chefs and bartenders. Guests and an expert panel will judge as chefs vie to be crowned “Food Flight! Favorite.” Local bartenders will show off their talents in the evening’s “Shake-Up Showcase.” Live music, art, celebrity chef appearances and informal modeling from El Paseo’s chic boutiques and the resort’s pro shop will round out the evening

Sweet Dreams

On Friday evening, a parade of decadent desserts prepared by celebrity and local chefs will be served while samples of sumptuous wines, champagnes and after-dinner drinks are poured poolside at the Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort & Spa.

Music at the McCallum

The festival will welcome a treat for the ears when new wave rock band The B-52s take the stage Saturday night at the McCallum Theatre. Sample a B-52 shot before the show and delicious chocolates afterward. Each guest may use his/her concert ticket stub to receive 10 percent off the regular ticket price of Sunday’s Grand Tasting event

The Grand Tastings

The signature event of the four-day festival, Saturday and Sunday’s Grand Tastings will feature wonderful wines and spirits from around the world, delicious foods prepared by local restaurants and Palm Desert’s Sister Cities chefs as well as celebrity chef demonstrations, book signings, wine and lifestyle seminars, art exhibits, shopping and live music – all on the grounds of the Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort & Spa.

Guests will pick up cooking tips from celebrity chefs Joey Altman, Ben Ford, The Hearty Boys, Antonia Lofaso, Sara Moulton, Ina Pinkney, David Rosengarten, Tommy Tang, Rick Tramonto and Joanne Weir.

Included will be lifestyle and cultural seminars on topics ranging from floral design to art collection, wine education and classic cocktails. The impressive list of presenters includes wine and spirits experts Philip di Belardino, David Nepove and David Strada, College of the Desert’s Chef Steve Bono, Cheese Impresario Barrie Lynn, Floral Ambiance’s Rene Van Rems, Chef Andie Hubka, food artist John Gargone and Bonhams & Butterfields’ Edward Beardsley

Additional Programming
