Retail Cost $6.50 - Purchase Today Palm Springs Life ART+CULTURE l Mission Statement Palm Springs and the entire Coachella Valley area not only deserves its own fine art magazine, it needs one, too!
Palm Springs Life ART+CULTURE — published in December for free-standing distribution throughout the Winter/Spring arts season — combines sophisticated articles and criticism, as well as service editorial, including a piece about how to buy art and a comprehensive schedule of visual and performing events.
Palm Springs drew a wave of artists as soon as railroad tracks gave them access to the desert in the late 1870s — the same time Impressionism had transformed the East Coast art scene. By 1900, it had become the most popular style in the United States — and was beginning to flourish in the West. Indeed, painters seeking fresh sources of inspiration and a healthier climate came to Southern California’s deserts, mountains, canyons, forests, and coastlines. Their work fueled the existing tradition of painting en plein air, or outdoors.
Although the valley has retained its plein air tradition, it offers much more than Impressionism. Over the past 10 years, Palm Desert has emerged the epicenter of the valley’s fine art scene. Meanwhile, Palm Springs Desert Museum recently opened its second season as a full-fledged art institution (it dropped natural sciences).
Palm Springs Life ART+CULTURE keeps you on the cutting edge while celebrating the valley’s rich arts heritage. Whether you collect, practice, or simply appreciate the arts, this special publication promises an enriching look at what the valley’s art scene has to offer.
