The name is often used to refer to the whole valley, but “Palm Springs” is actually a single city — and the one that started the tourism ball rolling. Outdoor cafés, shops, full-service resorts, cozy inns and celebrity homes rest snugly at the base of towering Mt. San Jacinto. Charming yet innovative, Palm Springs can be as sophisticated as it is quaint. “Palm Springs Modern” designs in architecture and furnishings have caused a worldwide sensation. The Palm Springs Desert Museum would be at home in any larger city. The Spa Resort Casino Palm Springsentertains high rollers, and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (to nearly the top of Mt. San Jacinto in less than 15 minutes) offers a natural high all its own. But the village ambiance, the legendary Indian Canyons (five minutes from downtown and home to America’s only indigenous palm trees) and the sacred healing waters remain to enchant and remind us of the rustic past.
